Confirmation in Ireland
Most children here are confirmed in sixth class, around the age of twelve, at a spring ceremony usually led by the bishop. Each one chooses a Confirmation name, often a saint they admire, and a sponsor, frequently a godparent, to stand behind them. It marks the move towards secondary school as much as a sacrament, and the best cards say so.
