If you choose “Mum”:
Headline: ORLA MURPHY VOTED MOTHER OF THE YEAR
Sub-headline: Athlone Mum Receives Top Award
Story:
Formal evening wear, designer names and sparkling jewellery were in abundance yesterday evening as a line of Mercedes cars queued outside the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin city centre. A few members of the public waited patiently in the rain to catch a glimpse of the celebrity mums as paparazzi camera flashes lit up their faces.
Rosanna Davison was one of the first to arrive, followed quickly by Vogue Williams, and then eight-time winner Miriam O’Callaghan. Entertainment was provided by Daniel O’Donnell, but it was for the award ceremony that everyone had come.
Paddy Power bookmakers had Miriam as a clear favourite to win again this year. Then sometime this summer Orla Murphy came to the attention of the judges. Orla, a Athlone native, and mother of three girls, has really captured the hearts of both the judges and the public.
Silence fell in the ceremony hall as its host, the mothers’ favourite, Graham Norton, opened the golden envelope to announce the Mother of the Year Award. ‘Well, well, well,’ he commented before he read out the name, ‘I’m not surprised in the least, not in the least. – Orla Murphy.’
Cheers and applause echoed throughout the room, with only the noticeable exceptions of Miriam and Vogue, who could only manage a brave smile. As humble as ever, Orla dedicated the award to ‘all the mothers of the world,’ and thanked her children for inspiring her to be the wonderful person that she is.
Orla will be jetted off this weekend, as part of her prize, to a luxury spa in Hawaii with a friend of her choice. Pedro Pascal, Cillian Murphy and Dáithí Ó Sé have all offered to accompany her. Other prizes such as a year’s worth of Botox treatment and use of a personal trainer will go to waste as Orla obviously has no need of them.
‘It’s such a pity Orla won’t be on the Late Late Show next week,’ Patrick Kielty said. ‘Apparently every Friday is family night. I guess that’s why Orla is so outstanding as a mum.’
We at the Irish Gazette would also like to wish Orla Murphy our congratulations for being the deserved winner of such a prestigious award.
If you choose “Dad”:
Headline: DECLAN MURPHY VOTED FATHER OF THE YEAR
Sub-headline: Athlone Dad Receives Top Award
Story:
Black tuxedos, designer names and glamorous models were in abundance yesterday evening as a line of Mercedes cars queued outside the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin city centre. A few members of the public waited patiently in the rain to catch a glimpse of the celebrity dads as paparazzi camera flashes lit up their faces.
Cillian Murphy was one of the first to arrive, followed quickly by Dara Ó Briain, and then eight-time winner Brendan Gleeson. Entertainment was provided by Daniel O'Donnell, but it was for the award ceremony that everyone had come.
Paddy Power bookmakers had Gleeson as a clear favourite to win again this year. Then sometime this year Declan Murphy came to the attention of the judges. Declan, a Athlone native, and father of three boys, has really captured the hearts of both the judges and the public.
Silence fell in the ceremony hall as its host, the fathers' favourite, Olympic champion Katie Taylor, opened the golden envelope to announce the Father of the Year Award. 'OMG,' she commented before she read out the name, 'I'm not surprised in the least, and he's certainly one of my favourites - Declan Murphy.'
Cheers and applause echoed throughout the room, with only the noticeable exceptions of Murphy and Ó Briain, who could only manage a brave smile. As humble as ever, Declan dedicated the award to 'all the fathers of the world,' and thanked his children for inspiring him to be the wonderful person that he is.
Declan will be jetted off this weekend, as part of his prize, to an all-expenses paid trip to New York with a friend of his choice. Margot Robbie, Zendaya and Nicola Coughlan have all offered to accompany him. Other prizes such as a year's worth of Botox treatment and use of a personal trainer will go to waste as Murphy obviously has no need of them.
'It's such a pity he won't be on the Late Late Show next week,' Patrick Kielty said. 'Apparently every Friday is family night. I guess that's why Declan is so outstanding as a dad.'
We at the Irish Gazette would also like to wish Declan Murphy our congratulations for being the deserved winner of such a prestigious award.
