If you choose “Wife”:
Headline: AOIFE MURPHY VOTED WIFE OF THE YEAR
Sub-headline: Athlone Woman Receives Top Award
Story:
Formal evening wear, designer names and sparkling jewellery were in abundance yesterday evening as a line of Mercedes cars queued outside the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin city centre. A few members of the public waited patiently in the rain to catch a glimpse of the celebrity wives as paparazzi camera flashes lit up their faces.
Saoirse Ronan was one of the first to arrive, followed quickly by Caitríona Balfe, and then eight-time winner Amy Huberman. Entertainment was provided by Daniel O’Donnell, but it was for the award ceremony that everyone had come.
Paddy Power bookmakers had Amy as a clear favourite to win again this year. Then sometime this summer Aoife Murphy came to the attention of the judges. Aoife, a Athlone native, has really captured the hearts of both the judges and the public.
Silence fell in the ceremony hall as its host, the wives’ favourite, Paul Mescal, opened the golden envelope to announce the Wife of the Year Award. ‘Well, well, well,’ he commented before he read out the name, ‘I’m not surprised in the least, not in the least. – Aoife Murphy.’
Cheers and applause echoed throughout the room, with only the noticeable exceptions of Saoirse and Caitríona, who could only manage a brave smile. As humble as ever, Aoife dedicated the award to ‘all the suffering wives of the world,’ and thanked her handsome, loving and patient husband for inspiring her to be the wonderful person that she is.
Aoife will be jetted off this weekend, as part of her prize, to a luxury spa in Hawaii with a friend of her choice. Pedro Pascal, Cillian Murphy and Dáithí Ó Sé have all offered to accompany her. Other prizes such as a year’s worth of Botox treatment and use of a personal trainer will go to waste as Aoife obviously has no need of them.
‘It’s such a pity Aoife won’t be on the Late Late Show next week,’ Patrick Kielty said. ‘Apparently every Friday is date night. I guess that’s why Aoife is so outstanding as a wife.’
We at the Irish Gazette would also like to wish Aoife Murphy our congratulations for being the deserved winner of such a prestigious award.
If you choose “Husband”:
Headline: CONOR MURPHY VOTED HUSBAND OF THE YEAR
Sub-headline: Athlone Man Receives Top Award
Story:
Black tuxedos, designer names and glamorous models were in abundance yesterday evening as a line of Mercedes cars queued outside the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin city centre. A few members of the public waited patiently in the rain to catch a glimpse of the celebrity husbands as paparazzi camera flashes lit up their faces.
Jamie Dornan was one of the first to arrive, followed quickly by Shane Lowry, and then eight-time winner Brian O’Driscoll. Entertainment was provided by Daniel O’Donnell, but it was for the award ceremony that everyone had come.
Paddy Power bookmakers had O’Driscoll as a clear favourite to win again this year. Then sometime this summer Conor Murphy came to the attention of the judges. Conor, a Athlone native, has really captured the hearts of both the judges and the public.
Silence fell in the ceremony hall as its host, the husbands’ favourite, Maura Higgins, opened the golden envelope to announce the Husband of the Year Award. ‘OMG,’ she commented before she read out the name, ‘I’m not surprised in the least, and he’s certainly one of my favourites – Conor Murphy.’
Cheers and applause echoed throughout the room, with only the noticeable exceptions of Dornan and Lowry, who could only manage a brave smile. As humble as ever, Conor dedicated the award to ‘all the suffering husbands of the world,’ and thanked his gorgeous, loving and patient wife for inspiring him to be the wonderful person that he is.
Conor will be jetted off this weekend, as part of his prize, to an all expenses paid trip to New York with a friend of his choice. Margot Robbie, Zendaya and Nicola Coughlan have all offered to accompany him. Other prizes such as a year’s worth of Botox treatment and use of a personal trainer will go to waste as Murphy obviously has no need of them.
‘It’s such a pity he won’t be on the Late Late Show next week,’ Patrick Kielty said. ‘Apparently every Friday is still date night. I guess that’s why Conor is so outstanding as a husband.’
We at the Irish Gazette would also like to wish Conor Murphy our congratulations for being the deserved winner of such a prestigious award.
