Headline: TADHG KEHOE CHRISTMAS NO. 1!
Sub-headline: TikTok Sensation Reaches The Top Spot
Story:
In a world of fast moving trends and ever changing fads, the Christmas number one has remained a tradition that has stood the test of time. Since the first Christmas number one ‘Here in my Heart’ by Al Martino in the early fifties, the names that followed him over the years read like a who’s who of musical royalty – Elvis, The Beatles, Queen, Ed Sheeran.
And now this year, that list has a new name. A name that has been written in lights at every major event this year. A name that has been printed in every leading newspaper in the world – Tadhg Kehoe.
Since going viral on TikTok earlier this year with his stunning rendition of Daniel O’Donnell’s song ‘Whatever Happened to Old Fashioned Love,’ Kehoe has shot to super stardom in just a few short months. Now that same song has reached the top spot in both the Irish and UK charts.
His popularity has been recently boosted by a friendly chart battle with Mariah Carey. Both have followers in their millions on Instagram. Carey has called Tadhg ‘all I want for Christmas’, and has promised to switch on the lights in Kehoe’s hometown of Roscrea.
Past friends have reacted with surprise at Kehoe’s success. ‘I was absolutely shocked when he went viral,’ said one, asking to remain anonymous. ‘And now a Christmas number one!’
Kehoe will be flying home to Roscrea after his Christmas Special on BBC One, and will be appearing on the Late Late Show in the New Year. ‘I’m really looking forward to having Tadhg on the show,’ Patrick Kielty said, but refused to deny or confirm the rumours of a duet with Daniel O’Donnell.
When asked for his thoughts on Kehoe’s performance, one grumpy talent show judge sneered. Referring to his massive Christmas hit, he commented, ‘whatever happened to old fashioned talent?’
But who knows what lies ahead in the New Year for this new star: A world tour? Perhaps even Hollywood? We at the Irish Gazette can only agree with his proud mammy – ‘Tadhg’s really got potential.’
