Naming Day Greeting Cards
Naming day cards for a baby’s naming ceremony, the non-religious way of welcoming a child and giving them their name. Personalise the card with the baby’s full name, the date of the ceremony and a message for the family.
What happens at a naming ceremony
A naming ceremony is a celebration without a church service. It is often led by a celebrant, at home, in a hotel or outdoors, and it may include readings, promises from the parents and the choice of guideparents or mentors in place of godparents. Some families hold one for an older child, or for a child who has joined the family later.
A naming day card message
There are no set words, so write what feels natural: welcome the child, mention the story behind the name if there is one, and promise to be around as they grow. If you have been asked to be a guideparent, the card is a good place to say thank you.
Name day cards
In Polish, Lithuanian and many other families living in Ireland, a name day, the feast of the saint a person is named after, is celebrated almost like a birthday. These designs are made for naming ceremonies, but you can personalise any of them with your own name day wishes.
For a church ceremony, see christening cards or custom relation christening cards, and for two babies, twins christening cards. There are also new baby cards. If you are bringing a present to the ceremony, browse our christening and naming day gift ideas.
